Kobe Wants To Play in His 40's
via www.dianarodriguezwallach.com
I checked to see if this was in The Credits and didn’t see it.
First off I am not surprised. I cannot doubt Kobe’s determination. But, it is very familiar to see players with his level of competitiveness to actually take less money, a lesser role or to realize when it’s time to hang it up. Either way, I will always cheer for Kobe as long as he is a Laker no matter what age he is. I think that at the time, he just might still be better than half the guards in the league. Just like Jordan was at 40. Actually, in terms of durability and taking Kobe’s dedication to taking care of himself he could be the first to coin the phrase "40 is the new 30" at least in basketball years that is.
Besides, in his eyes he will always be a youngster.

i'm not worried about his body (barring devastating injury)
i’m more worried about his ego (all great players have egos)
eventually, he’s going to have to jump to 2nd or even 3rd banana (assuming the lakers are as stacked). afterall, he’s already got his rings. a lot of great players tend to take less money and become role players in desperation for a ring.
still, i would love to see kobe play on forever no matter how old he is :).

those are exactly my sentiments..

Totally okay with that
I have full confidence that Kobe will know what his body can handle at the age of 40, but I really would not like to think about that until the time comes lol
Lakers 2009 Road to Redemption: TREVOR, DEREK, LAMAR, PAU & KOBE.
Play the game of which Lakers reminds you of: TA - TI, Shannon Brown - Chris Brown, Pau Gasol - Jesus, Machine - Luis Scola/Russell Brand, PJ with mustache and beard - Colonel Sanders.

I’m fine with kobe playing that long as long as he isnt getting smoked by the younger guys on D and he is willing to take a pay cut and acknowledge his new role.
I just hope he retires gracefully, after all he has done for the lakers, i would hate to see a brett favre situation.
In Kobe we trust!

I think that is a perfect example. Bret Favre. It’s going to be give an take. He is going to have a chance to leave this team with an amazing legacy so let’s hope his ego and pride don’t get in the way. I really Hope that he ends his career as Magic did. He is truly a life time Laker.

i think he will
he knows that ending his career with the same team will help his legacy (or something along the lines). I remember his saying in an interview once about how all the greats stuck to the same team (jordan’s wizards doesn’t count)

if brett frave is 40 right now and he is still playing in the NFL. And no offense to basketball, because I love hoops, but basketball is A LOT less physically demanding in some aspects. Kobe’s not taking hits from 300 pound defensive linemen every week. If he can keep his body in good condition and he could play until he’s in his early 40’s. but you are right, he will have to accept that hes not going to be able to take ity to the hole and bang over the more athletic centers.

Know how many time Peyton Manning has been hit this year?
12. Twelve times in 7 games. Kobe gets bumped that much in the first quarter, not to mention the wear and tear on his joints that come from playing 90+ games every year of his career. It takes a toll.
Jordan had two different spans of time where he took off from basketball, so that enabled him to play at age 40, but he certainly wasn’t in the top half of the guards in the league that season, and he probably hurt the Wizards more than helping them with his comeback.
