Question about NBA League Pass

Trying out the free trial they got going on right now because we have no cable at my house.

The Celtics game is blacked out and I assume the Laker one tonight is too. My question is are all the national games (ESPN, TNT) blacked out on League Pass? If not, I’ll consider buying it as an alternative to cable…but if they are screw that.

Hey, I’m showing up late but I just wanted to comment for anyone considering League Pass Broadband. I bought it last year to watch western playoff teams besides the Lakers (who I watch on cable).

I was really frustrated because when they say all national games are blacked out they not only mean TNT, ESPN & ABC games but also NBA/TV games. I can’t tell you how often the non-Laker game I wanted to watch was on “NBA/TV’s NBA Fan Night”. It was so frustrating that I doubt I will get League Pass Broadband again this year.

by Ben R on Oct 27, 2009 6:07 PM PDT reply actions

On top of that

I think Kuester not being there is starting to show. It’s hard to discern an offensive set being executed, if at all, in Cleveland’s offense. LeBron taking contested jumpers at the top of the key isn’t going to work.

by Ben R on Oct 27, 2009 6:08 PM PDT up reply actions

Not that I was the only one

But I’ve been pushing that angle for weeks

Kuester might have been the 2nd most important person to Cleveland’s success last year, behind Lebron

by C.A. Clark on Oct 27, 2009 6:09 PM PDT up reply actions

Amen

Brown finally delegating the offensive responsibilities to someone much more capable of executing them was an underrated reason behind their success last year, as well as their otherworldly scoring margin.

It really bears repeating how bad of an offensive coach Brown is. Especially with Shaq there, those offensive sets need to be crisp. Think of all the coaches Shaq has had — Brian Hill, Del Harris, Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, Mike D’Antoni, and Alvin Gentry. All these guys were great offensive coordinators. Brown isn’t even in these guys’ shadow in that regard. It’s a storyline that bears watching for most of the season.

Yes, but Pop is a good offensive coach

Barring Larry Brown, I don’t think there’s another coach I want to plan a play out of a timeout in the closing minutes of a game or quarter.

Brown is downright awful in managing that end, and has been for years.

Just once, I'm pretty sure

And the offense that team played was just as horrible.

Brown is a GREAT defensive coach, but I could draw up an offense as effectively as he could

by C.A. Clark on Oct 27, 2009 6:22 PM PDT up reply actions

To the Finals once, and have you watched Cleveland any the past years?

Their offense was LeBron dribbling at the top of the key for ten to fifteen seconds and then either shooting a contested jumper at the top of the key or going to the rim. That their offense still works is testament to how good LeBron is more than anything Brown does on that end.

Before he delegated responsibility to Kuester, their offense was 18th and 20th in offensive efficiency in ‘06-’07 (their Finals team) and ‘07-’08 respectively.

It's not about more sleep

It’s about not interrupting the body’s rhythms

by C.A. Clark on Oct 27, 2009 6:13 PM PDT up reply actions

Commercial gives me time to elaborate

The idea behind what they are doing isn’t necessarily so that the players can get more sleep, but it lets them sleep at the same time every day.

Establishing a daily rhythm is more important than the actual amount of sleep you get. For Kobe, he keeps the same pattern every day, it just happens to be a pattern that includes very little sleep every day. More sleep is always better, but it’s more productive to the body to get 6 hours every night than it is to get 5 one night and 8 the next

by C.A. Clark on Oct 27, 2009 6:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Quite right

Also, the fact that one or two coaches are doing it, and saying they’ve got good reasons for doing it, doesn’t make it a proven thing yet. D’Antoni in NYK, Rivers in BOS, both have reasons for nixing the morning shootaround (BTW, I’m assuming that’s what we’re talking about) … but others have tried it in the past, and not always to a very positive response. Whether it will work well in this case has yet to be determined.

That is a hard one for me

Lebron got the MVP last year which is good for him but Kobe got the Finals MVP. So Lebron can get all the regular season acholades as long as the Lakers are champs. But I will always be happy when the Celtics loose. My hatred for the Celtics is on a different level no matter how much love Lebron gets. Kobe has 4 title and Lebron has zero. He has a long way to go. In other words, it is more important to me that the Lakers pass the Celtics in titles or any accomplishments. PHil already passed Red in titles and that was huge.

It goes to show you that Cleveland will have the same problems this year

They simply can’t stop bigs who can space the floor. The pick and roll will still murder them this year.

Except that his job kinda expects him to comment on things related to basketball

Besides…. he got to the Finals, kicked ass, but was beaten by the Bulls. It’s hard to begrudge a guy for losing to Jordan.

From Wikipedia:

“Despite Barkley’s proclamation to Jordan, that it was “destiny” for the Suns to win the title, they were defeated in six games by the Bulls.28 He averaged 26.6 points and 13.6 rebounds per game during the whole postseason,12 including 27.3 points, 13.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game throughout the championship series.29 In the fourth game of the Finals, Barkley recorded a triple-double after collecting 32 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists."
