Farmar vs Brown thus far
Just curious as to all your opinions on the Farmar vs Brown PG battle thus far this preseason.
Shannon has played well with some great highlights reel dunks. He got the start last night but failed to really do anything (I've only watched the first half).
Farmar, to me, has done a better job of running the point. He has layed off the 3. even though he's shooting 44% from behind the arc and he has penetrated and dished more than usual which I think is his key to success. I was also paying close attention to Farmar's D against Augustine and the pick and roll and he didn't do too bad.
Farmar is averaging 9 pts on 48.1% from the field, 3.8 assists, 1 steal, and 1.75 turnovers, and as mentioned before, 44.4% from 3.
Brown is averaging 6 points on 33% shooting from the field, 1.5 assists, 0.8 steal, 1.25 turnovers, and a awful 1.25% from 3.
I know its early and both have a lot of time to do a 180 but I still think Farmar is the clear cut PG. He is penetrating more and using his speed as an asset. He's averaging 2.4 assists per game for his career so 3.8 is a huge leap. If Farmar can keep it up and play some solid defense, I still think he may be able to be the Lakers PG of the future. I still see Brown as a energy guy that gets a little PT every game but doesn't play a monster role throughout the year.

im going to reserve judgement until i see them perform when it matters.
They are both looking much better. UPS is unbelievably athletic, but Farmar looks like his game has matured tremendously, not to mention his shot is looking great!
At this point, im quite happy with both of them

Defenitly agree
Both bring different strengths and both are playing well so it’s a win win for everyone.

Hey Mr. D I agree.
With all the talent on the Lakers we need a PG that can get more than 5 assists per game. I gotta go with Farmar.
Are you serious?
The Lakers will never have a PG get more than 5 APG. At least not under the triangle. Chris Paul might if he was here but only if he didn’t run the offense. The system simply isn’t designed for any one player to get a lot of assists. If you notice we are near the league lead in assists per game, that is all that matters, not who gets them.

Yea, won't work with the first team in the triangle
But I think Farmar really fits in well with the second unit that runs more. They aren’t as talented as the first team and need to be set up more. I don’t think Farmar will really be starting any time soon but I think he’ll have a hell of a year with the second unit.

+1, the lakers definately dont need a superstar pg, in our system the pg is only responsible for playing D and making the spot up three. Penetration is always a welcomed bonus, but its far from essential given the weapons we have.

maybe the Lakers should adopt it?
make it their official offense, even after Phil leaves. Surely someone else in this country runs the triangle offense, and in today’s NBA, assistant coaches are becoming far more important. Besides, it’d be nice to rub that in Chicago’s face too.

Yea, I am serious
Farmar currently is a 5 APG PG w/only 18min/game… Get the ball to our superstar finishers in scoring position and you know what? they are going to score.
Apparently you didn't read what I wrote...
Getting the ball to the scorers is of course the correct thing to do. No one would argue that. However in the triangle that duty falls to everyone, not just the Point Guard, that is the point.
As for Farmar getting 5 APG in18 minutes……This is the pre-season and he is playing a)bad teams b) the 2nd string players on those bad teams. He will get roughly the same number of assists this season per 48 minutes as any other season. It’s the system not the player.
