No it was not KG this time....

But now newly accquired Celtic Forward Rasheed Wallace is saying that the Celtics can surpass the 1996 Chicago Bull's record of 72 regular season wins. Heres what Sheed said to a reporter: "'Oh definitely. Definitely, playing with those three other guys, also combining that with the guys we have on the bench, I think we can definitely can. Me personally, I think we can get that Bulls record. You know we have the talent for it. We have the will for it and ... I think we have the defense for it...You can. Because honestly, I really do feel that. That was a good team. They had some [Hall of Famers] on there, but we have a few on this team, too.'" Now I know we as well as sports analysts love to speculate and entertain the idea if the Lakers or other teams can break the record.  But for players on the team to do that is completely different.  I think it can be seen as a showing of arrogance.  Why? Because players should have their focus on trying to make their team better and not trying to break a record.  Rarely do you see an athlete or team having their mind set on frivolous things like trying to break a record like that.  And keep in mind its a very long season.  Remember when the Celtics went 27-2 to start the season and everyone was thinking they had a shot at the record, but after the Christmas Day game, they started to slump and later on in the year, KG injured his knee and the Celtics ended up finishing 62-20.  That is why I do not understand why Sheed would talk about something as pointless as that record. There is a reason why no one else has been able to win that many games.  That team in 1996, had Michael Jordan, the greatest player ever, Scottie Pippen, rebound machine Dennis Rodman, and veteran point guard Ron Harper.  And also Phil as their coach.  That team had the best rated offense and defense in the league, a 15-3 postseason record, and went on to win the championship.  Plus also take into consideration that the Celtics are an aging team.  (Kevin Garnett 33, Paul Pierce 31 , Ray Allen 34, Sheed 35)  Its highly unlikely a team with its core players in their mid 30s will stay heathy which is crucial for any team to have a high win record like that.  I know some of you might think that Sheed is not claiming that their team can break the record but I have rarely ever heard athletes in sports place focus on useless records and stats.  Makes me hope even more for a finals rematch to set things straight...
